Closing the achievement gap requires resources and time outside of school hours. Home libraries are a powerful tool for student success, especially when families and community members are empowered to become literacy champions. About the Presenters
Erskine Glover has over 30 years of experience in education, proudly serving as a teacher, math coach, technology coordinator, school-based administrator, assistant superintendent, State Director at the New Jersey Department of Education, and now superintendent of schools.
Dr. Kelli Cedo is the Senior Director of Early Learning and Title I at Norfolk Public Schools. She previously served as the Pre-K-12 ELA Curriculum Lead and Principal at Forrest Elementary in Hampton City Schools. Dr. Cedo’s career also includes roles as Title I coordinator, assistant principal, literacy coach, and Family Engagement Liaison at VBCPS. She is an Adjunct Professor at Old Dominion University and has served on the boards of the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals and the National Association of Federal Program Directors. Dr. Cedo has presented at national conferences and authored articles on equity and literacy, particularly focusing on year-round learning and outside-of-school time. She supports educators in ensuring all students have access to quality resources and programs. Dr. Cedo holds a master’s in elementary education and an Ed.S. and Ph.D. in educational leadership/supervision from Old Dominion University.
Tracey Allen is a longtime educator of over 30 years. As a Family Operations Engagement Coordinator (FOC) for the Camden City School District, she serves as a liaison between the home and school by organizing and leading family engagement activities and initiatives.
Dr. Amanda Alexander serves as Scholastic’s Chief Academic Officer. In this role, she leads research and validation efforts to ensure the efficacy of products, the delivery of professional learning services, and the company’s partnership with the Yale Child Study Center, focusing on the intersection of literacy and health. Before joining Scholastic, Dr. Alexander served as the Vice President of Policy and Partnership Development at Teachstone. With more than 20 years of progressive leadership experience, the majority of Dr. Alexander’s service has been as a practitioner in the public sector. She has a B.A. in English and an M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction from Howard University, an M.S.Ed. in educational leadership from Baruch College, and a Ph.D. in education from American University.
About the Moderator
Dwaine Millard is the Senior Vice President of National Sales & Partnerships for Literacy Initiatives at Scholastic, where he is responsible for developing strategies and supports for schools, families, and communities through the lens of literacy as an agent of change. Dwaine has spent over 15 years as a national leader working for educational publishing and services companies, with a focus on working with school districts to improve literacy and acceleration for all students. He remains committed to working with school leadership, community organizations, and corporations to create strategic solutions that increase equity and access for all children. Dwaine’s passion for education grew out of his background as a middle school English and math teacher in Maryland.
