Speaking, reading, and writing have become essential in math class. For Multilingual Learners, these skills help build understanding and keep them engaged with complex concepts. Join Alex Kajitani and Nina Dixon-Mauricia for a hands-on session focused on practical instructional practices that support students in thinking, talking, and writing their way to math success. Together, we explore:

  • Making math relevant and personal: Inspire students to discuss math in ways that connect to their lives and communities
  • Building confident communicators: Help students use writing and discussion to explain, argue, and justify their mathematical thinking
  • Approaching word problems with confidence: Teach perseverance and problem solving in ways that feel approachable and rewarding
  • Creating joy in the math classroom: Simple, engaging activities to make math exciting and strengthen teacher-student connections

This session provides you with tools you can use right away to make math meaningful for all learners. This recorded edWebinar is of interest to PreK-12 teachers, school leaders, and district leaders.
