About the Presenters
Dr. Karen Johannesen Brock has been an educator and educational presenter for more than three decades. She has assisted more than 100 schools (K–12) and districts with implementing school improvement plans. Her work with schools and districts focuses on instructional coaching and design as well as professional learning plans, school-improvement plans, English learners and multilingual students, and literacy. Dr. Brock has been an elementary and secondary teacher (general and special education) and currently serves as an elementary principal. She has taught at the university level on the topics of educational leadership, school data, professional learning, and K–12 literacy.
Dr. Margarita Espino Calderón, Professor Emerita at Johns Hopkins University, has worked on numerous research projects from 1990 to 2010 for JHU’s Center for Research on Education of Students Placed at Risk, Center for Data-Driven Reform, and Success for All Foundation. As President and CEO of Margarita Calderón & Associates, Inc., Dr. Calderón and her team continue to implement ExC-ELL in many schools, districts, and statewide institutes throughout the country and internationally. Dr. Calderón has over 100 publications, is an international speaker and a keynote speaker at major conferences, and conducts comprehensive professional development programs throughout the country and abroad.
