About the Presenters

Margarita Calderón, Ph.D. is Professor Emerita and Senior Research Scientist at the Johns Hopkins University School of Education. Dr. Calderón’s work in vocabulary, content knowledge, and reading comprehension strategies serves as the basis for multilingual learner instruction in the Scholastic Knowledge Library.

Amanda Dobbins

Vice President of Professional Learning Services Amanda Dobbins leads Scholastic’s talented team of facilitators and coaches. Amanda has extensive experience in education technology and, for the past 15 years, has focused on learning design, management, and strategy for professional services organizations. Amanda’s favorite part of working at Scholastic and with their partners is generating innovations to address the challenges facing educators, students, and families. Amanda pursued studies in TESOL at San Francisco State and Boston University and is an advocate for multilingual learners and newcomers to the U.S. She was born in Tanzania and is currently studying Spanish and Swahili with varying success.
