The goal of this edWebinar is to empower K-4 educators and administrators with actionable, evidence-based frameworks to maximize every minute within their daily literacy block. Grounded in the Science of Reading (SoR), this session will provide clear, practical ideas and activities for structuring time to accelerate student reading and writing.
Key topics covered include:
- The Anatomy of an SoR-Infused Literacy Block: Exploring how word recognition and language comprehension components shift across grades K-4 to build a cohesive instructional continuum
- Whole Group vs. Small Group: Navigating when to deliver explicit, systematic whole-group instruction and how to organize data-driven small groups
- High-Engagement Routines: Implementing simple instructional routines

About the Presenter
Peggy Price, M.Ed., a Fellow of the prestigious Orton-Gillingham Academy, is a literacy and special education expert who leads the Stern Center’s teacher training in the Orton-Gillingham Approach to teaching reading. Peggy oversees a talented team of teacher mentors who assist her with districtwide consulting and providing in-depth mentorship to educators seeking OG certification. She regularly speaks at national conferences about evidence-based literacy instruction, dyslexia, neuromyths, and morphology.
Peggy is the co-author of Orton-Gillingham for the K–2 Classroom: Weekly Guide and Universal Assessment, Second Edition. She has taught Orton-Gillingham to students from ages 5–44 and loves witnessing her students (and now the educators she mentors) blossom as they learn the structure of the English language. Peggy holds a master’s degree in special education: early childhood multiple and severe disabilities from Georgia State University. Her bachelor’s degree is in psychology, with a concentration in applied behavior analysis from Binghamton University. Peggy firmly believes every child has the right to read, and every teacher deserves the knowledge and training to realize that promise.
About the Moderator
As the Director of Professional Learning at the Stern Center for Language and Learning, Leigh Buettler leads strategic partnerships and literacy initiatives. She collaborates with administrators and educators to implement research-based frameworks that expand learning and drive academic success for all students. Leigh has been dedicated to the field of education since 2004, beginning her career as an Adjunct Lecturer at SUNY Albany. A former Teach For America Corps Member with an M.S.Ed. from Fordham University, her background spans roles as a middle and elementary educator and an instructional coach. Dual certified in General and Special Education, Leigh leverages her deep pedagogical expertise and extensive knowledge of the Science of Reading to bridge research and practice. She is committed to empowering educators with the evidence-based literacy tools necessary to foster inclusive, high-achieving learning environments where every student can become a proficient reader and writer.
