As we see progress in some states to introduce evidence-based literacy policy changes, leaders in the Science of Reading and bilingual instruction also need strategies to best support multilingual students. How can educational leaders develop expert consensus to inform state-level policymakers on future policy and implementation decisions so that the needs of bilingual learners don’t get left behind?

Recently, educators, researchers, and advocates in California developed a report, Narrowing Down to Find Common Ground: Shared Agreements for Effective Literacy Instruction in California, which explores how leaders in the Science of Reading and emergent bilingual instruction can better work together to support multilingual students.

In this edWebinar, viewers have the opportunity to hear directly from one of the paper’s authors, Dr. Claude Goldenberg, Nomellini-Olivier Professor of Education, Emeritus, Stanford University, and contributor Maya Goodall, Senior Director of Emergent Bilingual Curriculum, Lexia Learning. In their conversation, Dr. Goldenberg and Ms. Goodall discuss strategies for education leaders to develop a clear, aligned vision from literacy advocacy, policy, practitioner, and research communities in order to guide evidence-based literacy instruction.

This recorded edWebinar is of interest to K-6 teachers, ELL and ESOL specialists, and school and district leaders.
