Gene Kerns, Ed.D. is Vice President and Chief Academic Officer at Renaissance and a nationally acclaimed speaker on assessment, learning progressions, and educational standards. He is co-author of the book Literacy Reframed: How a Focus on Decoding, Vocabulary, and Background Knowledge Improves Reading Comprehension.

Sarah Brown, Ph.D. is a national MTSS consultant and author. She formerly served as Senior Director of MTSS Solutions at Renaissance and as Bureau Chief at the Iowa Department of Education. She is co-author of the book Effective Universal Instruction: An Action-Oriented Approach to Improving Tier 1.
