In the wake of COVID-19, educators, communities, and families are doing all they can to combat its toll on student learning. Especially among children in low-socioeconomic areas. To do so, schools and homes need every resource possible, particularly those that make a big impact with a small investment.

Home libraries are powerful, purposeful, and productive. When built by educators and students, they deliver an undeniable bang for a book. They rival programs that need more expense and manpower. Books at home reduce student learning loss, increase reading skills, and engage families. And they establish a healthier, more active community where young people thrive.

In this edWebinar, we:

  • Review research that shows how home libraries are linked to student achievement, economic success, and health
  • Discuss data that show how children without access to reading materials at home are more likely to suffer learning losses when out of school
  • Illustrate how home libraries are one of our best tools to combat learning loss
  • Present the essential components of a student home library
  • Share how three school districts used home libraries to accelerate reading achievement

This recorded edWebinar is of interest to PreK-12 teachers, librarians, school and district leaders, and education technology leaders.
