Our emergent bilingual and multilingual students face challenges in English-speaking classrooms their monolinguals peers might not—academically, socially, and emotionally. It’s imperative that educators ensure all students feel welcome and included at school.

For Denise Soler Cox, co-producing and co-directing the award-winning film Being Eñye revealed a foundational truth: Belonging is a universal human need. Worldwide audience reaction to Being Eñye reinforced that the desire to belong, feel included, and valued is not limited to a group or minority. It is a desire in the hearts of everyone. What began as her personal project became a crusade to positively impact individuals, companies, and communities. Project Eñye has one single and simple purpose… to transform how we think and speak about culture, identity and what it means to belong.

In this session, viewers heard directly from Denise, gaining insight into her research-driven program, which emphasizes why belonging matters to us personally and collectively, and walked away with a blueprint that improves lives and relationships, as well as special access to watch the emotional documentary Being Eñye.

This edWebinar was of interest to PreK-12 teachers, ELL and ESOL specialists, librarians, school and district leaders, and education technology leaders.

This edWebinar was part of Emergent Bilingual Week: A New Era in Multilingualism.

This five-day event, October 23rd – 27th was designed to inspire educators and leaders in service of our 5 million+ multilingual students across the country. Our expert-led panel discussions brought you the latest research, strategies, and tools to celebrate the assets every student brings to the classroom.
