Are you struggling to get your MTSS practice off the ground and soaring? Learn how one large urban district tackled the challenge of rising student needs and successfully improved student outcomes. We will provide a behind-the-scenes look at how Chicago Public Schools was able to develop a comprehensive and equitable MTSS practice, including useful resources, technology, and expert tips for launching this framework.

Toni Liza DeMello

About the Presenters

Toni Liza DeMello is an experienced instructional specialist with a demonstrated history of working in the education management industry. She has been in education for over 20 years and served in leadership roles within Chicago Public Schools for the past decade. She is currently the District Manager for Multi-Tiered System of Supports in the Office of Teaching and Learning. In this role, she oversees the implementation of MTSS for the district and manages school-level interventionists and Tutor Corps. She earned two master’s degrees from Northern Illinois University, one for educational leadership and administration and another for educational, instructional, and curriculum supervision. She completed her undergraduate degree at California State University, Fresno.

Eva Dundas

Dr. Eva Dundas is the Chief Academic Officer at Branching Minds, where she pursues her mission to bridge the gap between the science of learning and education practice. Dr. Dundas has a Ph.D. in developmental and cognitive psychology from Carnegie Mellon University, where she conducted research on how the brain develops when children acquire visual expertise for words and faces. Her research also explores how the relationship between neural systems (specifically language and visual processing) unfolds over development, and how those dynamics differ with neurodevelopmental disorders like dyslexia and autism. She has published articles on that subject in the Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, Neuropsychologia, Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, and Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders. Dr. Dundas also has an M.Ed. in mind, brain, and education from Harvard University and a B.S. in neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh.
