In this month’s webinar for the edWeb.net edGlobal community, presenter Paul Tucker, Chief Product Officer & VP Research and Product Development of Avant Assessment, examined best and worst practices in diagnostic assessment, from both theoretical and practical points of view.  Paul addressed the differences between diagnostic, benchmark, and summative tests.  He also discussed the dangers of using summative assessment data for diagnostic purposes. Paul shared principles to guide the design and administration of effective diagnostic assessments; and explained how the use of diagnostic data can inform curriculum design and differentiated instruction. Examples of using diagnostic assessments for world languages and in the international area were also highlighted.
