Supporting and retaining teachers continues to be a major issue for districts and organizations across the country. This edWebinar provides information and support to school and district leaders on their quest to find solutions to teacher retention challenges. Karmin Ricker

About the Presenters

Karmin Ricker is completing her 30th year in education. She has been with the Raymore-Peculiar School District since 2007. Prior to that, she spent nine years at the Drexel School District, three years at the Adrian School District, and one year at the Butler School District all in Missouri just south of Kansas City. Karmin began her career teaching English and French at the secondary level as well as coaching athletic teams. Karmin eventually left the classroom to become an instructional coach so that she could impact how teachers could engage learners. In 2010, Karmin took on administrative duties at the district level with the Raymore-Peculiar School District. She has worn many hats in her role at the district level, but being the coordinator for the mentoring program has been consistent in her years at Raymore-Peculiar.

Pete Leida

Dr. Pete Leida is a Partnership Manager with Insight Education Group, who currently supports districts with the following: facilitating strategic planning efforts, supporting recruitment and retention teams, and providing leadership coaching. Before joining Insight, Dr. Leida served as the Deputy Superintendent in the Colonial School District in Delaware where he was responsible for the successful implementation of the Empowering Educators to Excel grant while supporting the work of the Curriculum & Instruction and Schools Divisions. Prior to that, he worked as the Director of Schools where he focused on leadership development, support, and evaluation of school leaders, as an elementary assistant and principal in three different schools over eleven years, and as an elementary and special education teacher, all in Colonial. Dr. Leida also serves as an adjunct instructor at Wilmington University.

Wendy Amato

Dr. Wendy Amato earned her master’s and Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from the University of Virginia. She holds an MBA from James Madison University in strategies for competitive advantages in complex industries. She began teaching in 1991 at Universite Blaise Pascal in Clermont Ferrand, France, has served as a middle school administrator, and still teaches at UVA’s School of Education. Dr. Amato works tirelessly to support educators with resources and tools that support student learning outcomes. She collaborates with education leaders, researchers, and presenters who share the mission of teaching for the greater good. A thoughtful and engaging speaker, Dr. Amato has delivered teacher professional development workshops and student leadership workshops across the U.S. and internationally on five continents. Outside of work, Dr. Amato is a pickleball enthusiast and lives with her husband near Charlottesville, Virginia.
