About the Presenters
Sharon Vaughn, Ph.D., is the Manuel J. Justiz Endowed Chair in Education and Executive Director of the Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk at The University of Texas at Austin. A leading researcher in literacy and learning disabilities, she has published over 250 articles and 35 books as well as secured more than $100 million in research funding. Dr. Vaughn has led large-scale studies on reading interventions, teacher effectiveness, and support for English learners, helping to shape educational policy and practice. Currently, she serves as a Senior Adviser to the National Center on Intensive Interventions. The University of Texas at Austin recently awarded Dr. Vaughn the President’s Research Impact Award.

Dr. Young-Suk Kim is a Professor at the School of Education, University of California, Irvine. A former classroom teacher, she focuses on language and literacy development and effective instruction for diverse students. Her extensive research delves into the complexities of how students learn to read and write, the factors that influence their reading and writing abilities, and effective instructional practices. Dr. Kim’s research has received over $60 million in grants from the Institute of Education Sciences, the U.S. Department of Education, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and the National Science Foundation. Currently, Dr. Kim serves as the Editor-In-Chief for Scientific Studies of Reading.
