Research points to clear interventions for kids with dyslexia, but the evaluation process can be hazy. What’s evident is that for various reasons including lower expectations, Black children have fewer intensive resources to address dyslexia. An accurate diagnosis of dyslexia can be a game changer for all students, especially those more likely to be left behind if they fall short. Jeannette Roberes is an author who has worked as a speech pathologist, software engineer, and educator. It is available on any online platform where books are sold. Jeannette is the chief academic officer of Bearly Articulating and a board member of Smiles for Speech.

If you looked at Terrie’s resume, you would be confused. Her undergraduate and graduate degree work placed her in the field of criminal justice. However, it was through continuous listening and learning that led her on a journey in education starting out in preschool teaching and administration, then becoming a Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP) and earning a Ph.D. in literacy and educational leadership from St. John’s University. Terrie is also a John Maxwell certified speaker and coach.
