Discover ways to provide targeted instruction that meets the specific learning needs of today’s wide range of multilingual learners in order to improve English language proficiency and literacy skills. Based on decades of bilingual classroom and PD experience, Barbara Andrews, who is also an author of Small-Group Reading Instruction, explains a systematic approach to matching different types of small-group instruction with the varied needs of multilingual learners.

This research-based edWebinar provides instructional strategies and detailed suggestions for linking English language acquisition and literacy development in small-group settings so students can successfully access grade-level content and accelerate their academic progress. Viewers will:

  • Review current research findings on the language and literacy needs of diverse multilingual learners in grades preK-8
  • Hear recommendations for language and literacy development through small-group instruction of phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension skills
  • Investigate equitable grouping configurations that increase progress toward academic standards and fluent reading, writing, speaking, and listening
  • Identify independent learning opportunities that help multilingual learners transfer their language and skills

This recorded edWebinar will share proven teaching techniques that work well in the classroom or online, so it will be of interest to preK-8 multilingual and ESL/ELD directors, specialists, and teachers, as well as principals, instructional coaches, reading teachers, and other educators who work with multilingual learners.
