autism1edWeb’s Teaching Students with Autism community held its May webinar on creating and implementing visual schedules and the benefits they provide for children with autism. Webinar presenters, Mandi Rickelman, MA (Supervisor, Monarch Center for Autism Preschool) and Anna Hutt Fredman, MS, CCC-SLP (Speech/Language Pathologist, Monarch Preschool) showed attendees how visual schedules can transform lives by organizing a child’s day, preparing him or her for everyday and unexpected routines, decreasing anxiety and challenging behaviors, and enhancing interactions and experiences.
Video can be used to enhance teacher and student engagement, significantly improve learning outcomes, enable 24/7 professional development, and engage and involve parents and the community.
Social media is about building relationships. It gives those in the industry a chance to connect and build relationships with others in the industry, educators, and students. It also provides a platform for educators to share with one another and also share with the world the great work of their students!
Webinar presenter, Shannon Holden, Assistant Principal, Republic Middle School, MO, examined the laws that have been passed in recent years, and how they can help educators as they wage war against bullies in their schools. Attendees learned about the movement for a federal anti-bullying law, state efforts to combat bullying, and how the relevant legislation affects their classrooms.

He shared the tools that he used to create a connected and transparent learning environment in his district, and also discussed how social media can expand educators PLNs and help them share ideas with dedicated and innovative peers around the world.
The MOH Character Development Program allows students to use critical thinking skills as they explore primary sources. Students can analyze complex academic language, identify tone and purpose of primary sources, and increase their ability to use primary sources in evidence based writing.
Minecraft is a little indie game that has taken the world by storm and has many wondering why children seem to be “obsessed” with this game. Given the enthusiasm surrounding this game, it is no surprise that educators are exploring ways to bring Minecraft into the classroom.
