View this edWebinar with Kylene Beers as she discusses how teachers and literacy coaches can help kids become skilled, engaged, and independent readers. Viewers learn comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, and engagement strategies.

Kylene discusses fix-up strategies that students can use when the text is confusing, vocabulary information that will help teachers understand which words to pre-teach, comprehension strategies that encourage close reading, fluency work that improves reading rate, and engagement strategies that help reluctant readers stick with a text even when the text is tough. This fast-paced, hands-on session gives viewers concrete strategies they will want to know as the new school year begins.

The strategies shared apply to fiction and nonfiction, making this recorded edWebinar appropriate for ELA, reading, social studies, and science teachers as well as literacy coaches and resource teachers in grades 4-12.
