Kimberly Collins

About the Presenters

Kimberly Collins is an experienced educator and instructional leader with over 13 years in K–12 education. She holds a bachelor’s degree in K–8 education from the University of Maine at Farmington, a master’s degree in K–12 education from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine, and an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Educational Leadership and Policy from Virginia Tech. As a Success Coach for Chesapeake Public Schools, Kimberly supports educators in strengthening instructional practices, building capacity, and leading with purpose. She is passionate about empowering teachers through coaching and collaboration, and she has designed and facilitated professional development experiences both within her district and at conferences across the country.

Roxane Thomas

Roxane Thomas is the Assistant Principal at Northeast Career and Technical Academy. She supports English, math, social studies, and science in implementing schoolwide mastery learning. She is a collaborative learning strategy enthusiast—she loves a good jigsaw, four-corners, or fishbowl discussion—and a supporter of teacher autonomy and creativity to make learning fun for students of all ages.

Matthew Hickson

Matt Hickson, Head of Partner Transformation at Modern Classrooms Project, is a community organizer turned school leader. He believes in leveraging the power of education to build more joyful, purposeful, and just communities. In more than a decade of work in North Carolina, he served his community both inside and outside of school buildings. Matt was the Durham Public Schools Beginning Teacher of the Year before becoming a Principal and Central Services Director. He also served on the Board of Directors at Student U and the DPS Foundation. When not working in schools, Matt is an avid Buffalo Bills fan and dog dad to his puppy, Archie. He currently resides in Washington, DC.
