Hear us out—TikTok has a place in your classroom! Social media continues to shape the way information is shared and consumed, especially by young adults.

Among the ever-changing tides of online content, students are bound to encounter mis- and disinformation created and amplified by bad actors. Given the sheer volume of daily social media posts, these sites are difficult to monitor and regulate. Nonetheless, TikTok is a regular news source for more than half of its users, according to Pew Research Center.

In this edWebinar, presented by the News Literacy Project’s Brittney Smith and Alexa Volland, learn strategies for helping students anchor to facts when navigating turbulent social media feeds. You learn how to empower students to think critically as they scroll, with tips and examples from platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and X.

This recorded edWebinar is of interest to middle and high school teachers, librarians, school leaders, district leaders, and education technology leaders.
