How can we create math classrooms where students do the heavy lifting of thinking? In this engaging edWebinar, we explore practical strategies inspired by Peter Liljedahl's Building Thinking Classrooms research to help students become active participants in their own mathematical learning.
Viewers discover how to leverage the knowledge already present in the classroom to promote student discourse, collaboration, and sensemaking. Through real-world examples and actionable classroom practices, we examine ways to shift instruction from teacher-centered delivery to student-driven exploration, helping learners develop a deeper understanding of both mathematical concepts and procedures.
During this session, educators:
- Explore evidence-based strategies that promote active mathematical thinking
- Learn techniques for facilitating rich student discussions and productive collaboration
- Discover ways to use students' diverse experiences and ideas to build understanding
- Identify practical first steps for implementing Thinking Classroom practices in any learning environment
Viewers leave with ready-to-use strategies that foster engagement, increase student ownership of learning, and support deeper conceptual understanding. Whether you're new to Building Thinking Classrooms or looking to expand your current practices, this session provides practical tools to help students arrive each day ready to think, explore, and confidently make sense of mathematics.
This edWebinar recording is of interest to K-12 teachers, school leaders, district leaders, and education technology leaders.
