About the Presenters
Elijah Ortiz has been an elementary educator for 10 years, six of which have focused on math instruction. He has taught departmentalized math in grades three, four, and five working with diverse learners, including students with special needs. Elijah loves teaching math because there are multiple strategies to get to the same answers, which really benefits students of different learning styles and abilities. He loves the idea of gamifying math and making it fun for students to help develop positive associations with math. Elijah currently teaches fifth-grade math at Concourse Village Elementary School in the Bronx, New York. He has been at this school for eight years teaching across multiple grade levels, serving as a coach and mentor to his colleagues, and delivering professional development sessions alongside the assistant principal centered on math instruction. He has a bachelor’s in elementary education and a master’s in special education.
Ms. Sherri DiNoia has an extensive and diverse background in education within the Colonial Heights Public Schools System. With a strong commitment to educational excellence along with technology and cross-curricular integration, Ms. DiNoia has played several pivotal roles in shaping the learning experiences of students including Computer Support Specialist, Classroom Teacher, Elementary Math Interventionalist, and Elementary Mathematics Instructional Specialist.
James Sanders is the Product Marketing Manager at Unruly Studios, where he champions the transformative potential of Unruly Math and Unruly Code for K-12 education. With over 15 years of experience in the field, James has helped introduce tools like Chromebooks, YouTube for Education, and Breakout EDU to schools. His efforts focus on empowering educators with innovative strategies to enhance learning and engagement in the classroom. His background in integrating technology into education is complemented by his background as the founder and CEO of Breakout EDU, a Presidential Innovation Fellow at the White House, and an Innovation Manager for KIPP Schools. James holds a master’s in elementary education from Loyola Marymount University and a bachelor’s in social studies from Western Washington University. Outside of his professional endeavors, he is passionate about photography and adventures with his young family.

Unruly Math is the standards-aligned K-5 enhancement program that ditches the worksheets and gets kids excited about practicing core math skills. Students use Unruly Splats, which light up and make sounds when stomped on (you read that right!), to play interactive math games that challenge them to practice key concepts. Students participate in math games that challenge them to apply key math concepts through movement, collaboration, and play. By integrating Unruly Math into the curriculum, schools can help students improve math outcomes while reducing screen time.
