We’ve heard again and again about the educational challenges of the 21st century. From the point of view of policymaking, a classroom is where our future scientists, engineers, programmers, doctors, economists and entrepreneurs currently sit. We have a moral duty to provide every child the chance to succeed in life and realize their potential.

When you look at the same group of children 20 years later, the vast majority of our children will fail to achieve their dreams and realize their full potential. The common grounds of all the skills that are needed and will be needed in an evolving world are the foundational skills of literacy and mathematics. None of us can tell what the job market will look like in 20 years, but we know that strong foundations of literacy and mathematics will keep being the key to success. To make it into a slogan, there is no STEM or STEAM without the M.

In this edWebinar, Prof. Raz Kupferman discusses the interplay between rigor and engagement in developing deep conceptual understanding and cultivating curiosity in mathematics. He also discusses an approach to mathematical education that puts students at the intersection of encouragement and engagement where they confront ideas and problems that are meaningful.

This recorded edWebinar will be of interest to teachers and school and district leaders of the kindergarten through elementary levels.

Raz KupfermanAbout the Presenter

Prof. Raz Kupferman co-founded Matific in 2012, and since then has been its Chief Scientist and Head of Pedagogy.
