About the Presenters
Dr. Nancy Akhavan has spent 30 years as an educator and consultant. Her work focuses on student support through good first literacy instruction, intervention, English language development, leadership development, and organizational systems to increase student achievement. For the past 15 years, she has conducted professional development, given keynotes, and provided seminars for thousands of educators nationally and internationally. She has served as a consultant for numerous districts and coached school district leaders, principals, and teachers related to serving the most challenged situations and historically underserved youth in our educational systems.
Dr. Nichole Walsh has over 20 years of experience in the field of education teaching, leading, and consulting in Title I schools with high populations of multilingual learners. As a district secondary instructional coach teaching, Dr. Walsh trained and supported 7-12-grade teachers across all disciplines in literacy, language, engagement, assessment, and technology. She also worked as both a middle school principal and as a high school curriculum and instruction VP, where she led PLCs and unit design work across all content areas. Dr. Walsh also successfully supported the implementation of schoolwide MTSS in behavior and academics at the secondary level.
