Several researchers suggest that lack of practice may inhibit reading comprehension by preventing young students from acquiring reading fluency and by limiting the amount of time struggling readers spend reading text. While practice is widely accepted for learning to play sports and musical instruments, some educators view practicing reading as boring and unnecessary.

In this edWebinar, Dr. Stephanie Stollar addresses misconceptions and position practice within classroom reading instruction. By the end of this session, viewers:

  • Learn to define text reading fluency that supports reading comprehension
  • Understand the bottleneck created by lack of fluency in text
  • Recognize the role of practice in the instructional hierarchy
  • Discover opportunities for practice that educators can look for in classroom reading materials to assist with making informed decisions

Following Dr. Stollar’s presentation, Angela Cammarata provides viewers with a short preview of the new edition of Zaner-Bloser’s comprehensive English language arts curriculum, The Superkids Reading Program © 2026.

K–2 teachers and education leaders are invited to join us as we explore the research and how best to apply it to reading instruction.
