Too often, educators feel crushed by the challenge of dramatically impacting student reading outcomes all by themselves. Their jobs feel unwinnable, leading to an annual cycle of stress and burnout. District leaders feel similarly frustrated. They invest in promising practices and interventions, but reading scores hardly budge. Achievement gaps widen between historically marginalized students and their white peers. But there’s an alternative path hiding in plain sight.

In this edWebinar, viewers leave with concrete tips to transform reading outcomes by engaging families as partners in teaching and learning. Designed for both educators and administrators looking for new approaches to supporting young readers, viewers also learn about solutions that can help embed family-educator collaboration into core district practice.

This recorded edWebinar is of interest to PreK-3 teachers and school and district leaders.

Amanda Hamilton Roos

About the Presenter

Over the past 20 years, Amanda Hamilton Roos taught in public schools, private schools, community centers, and libraries. She’s written hundreds of pages of literacy curricula, published numerous articles on family engagement, and sent passionate letters to school boards. But she’s also sat at the kitchen table and battled homework with her three children, and she knows the angst of seeing your child struggle to read. So, for Amanda, the work to help teachers and families form partnerships is not abstract. Amanda holds a BA from Duke University where she discovered her passion for literature and education. As she leads the team that designs resources for teachers and families at Springboard Collaborative, she hopes to instill a love for learning to read in all adults.
