Today, reading is much more than making sense of ink on paper. The average teen spends significantly more time reading from digital and online sources than traditional print outlets. To comprehend what they “read,” students need to be media literate, understanding the language of sound and image and the distractions that reading online can present.

In this edWebinar, Erik Palmer, author, speaker, and advisor on HMH Into Literature, explains the skills needed by today’s readers and suggests ways to teach those skills. Viewers of this recorded edWebinar will learn how to help students:

  • Make smarter choices for online reading
  • Understand the role of metacognition in online reading
  • Evaluate online sources for credibility
  • Understand how sound and image impact voice

This recorded edWebinar will be of interest to upper elementary through high school teachers and school and district leaders.
