In order to thrive, multilingual learners need to build English language proficiency and strong literacy skills simultaneously.

How can we create classrooms where language development is infused directly into high-quality literacy instruction—and where all students are seen, heard, and fully engaged?

Through the lens of the California ELD standards, renowned language and literacy experts Dr. Sharon Vaughn (award-winning literacy researcher, professor, and author) and Dr. Jim Cummins (globally renowned for his research in bilingual education, literacy development, and language acquisition for multilingual learners) will explore practical, research-informed strategies for both Integrated ELD and Designated ELD instruction.

During this edWebinar, Dr. Vaughn and Dr. Cummins will share:

  • Strategies for strengthening students’ reading, writing, speaking, and listening—while honoring students’ linguistic and cultural assets
  • Tips for scaffolding complex texts, promoting rich academic classrooms, and developing students’ academic language
  • Ideas for connecting learning to students’ home experiences and fostering meaningful home-school partnerships
  • A clear vision of how to create equitable literacy environments where every learner can succeed!

Attendees will come away from this session with classroom-ready routines, instructional strategies, and planning ideas that can be implemented immediately across PreK–12 reading and ELA classrooms.

All educators with an interest in K-12 literacy are encouraged to attend! California educators and leaders will find this session especially valuable.
