In reading, comprehending refers to the thinking readers do before, during, and after engaging with a text. One of our main goals as teachers is to facilitate active thinking in ways that help our students construct and expand meaning from reading. About the Presenters

Chrisie Moritz is a National Board Certified educational consultant based out of Vienna, Virginia. She presents at conferences and consults with school districts across the country on various topics related to literacy instruction. Chrisie has co-authored a book on small group reading instruction, taught at Title I schools in North Carolina and Virginia, and served as a literacy coach, district trainer of literacy coaches, Reading Recovery® teacher, and adjunct professor at East Carolina University.
