In an ideal world, all students learning English in the United States would become successfully bilingual or multilingual. Yet more than 25% of Emergent Bilinguals spend six or more years in dedicated English language development programs without mastering the language. What are we missing, and how can we help every student succeed? The answer lies with artificial intelligence and its potential to create more equitable educational opportunities.

Watch Maya Goodall, Senior Director of Emergent Bilingual Curriculum at Lexia Learning, as she dives into the growing role of artificial intelligence as a tool in the English language acquisition classroom. Today, artificial intelligence is leveraged to differentiate instruction based on individual student progress, as well as to improve how we look at and use student data. It’s even used as a speech recognition tool to assess accurate pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary regardless of student accent. Maya explores current states of student language learning and explain how artificial intelligence is being used to make equitable instruction a reality for Emergent Bilingual students.

This recorded edWebinar is of interest to K-6 teachers, ELL/ESOL specialists, school and district leaders, and education technology leaders.

This edWebinar is part of Emergent Bilingual Week: Accelerate Language, Accelerate Literacy.

This five-day event, October 17th – October 21st, consists of a series of webinars that explore important aspects of supporting emergent bilingual students, including the acceleration of English language learning, the role of oral language in literacy instruction, language learning efficacy and research, how educators can leverage artificial intelligence to support Emergent Bilingual students, and much more! Register for the Week.
