Now, more than ever, we all need to prioritize social-emotional learning (SEL). The discussion will focus on the skyrocketing demand for supporting students and their teachers in terms of SEL and mental health. The presenters will address the need for trauma-informed practices and best practices in regard to digital citizenship. Additionally, they will speak directly to guidelines for accelerating recovery in terms of the American Rescue Plan ESSER funds.

Marc ZimmermanAbout the Presenters

Marc Zimmerman was a co-founder and President of Critical Digital Data, Inc. (CDIX, OTC:BB), an online data storage company; CEO of 1st Financial Home Loan Services, a high-end boutique mortgage brokerage that was sold in 2005; and CEO-Founder of PineappleHut Real Estate, a multi-million dollar-producing real estate brokerage. Marc attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He is a highly accomplished keyboardist, pianist, and composer with worldwide recording and touring credentials.

 

Carrie Rogers-Whitehead

Carrie Rogers-Whitehead is the founder of Digital Respons-Ability, a mission-based company that has educated tens of thousands of students, parents and educators on digital citizenship. She regularly writes and researches on technology and is the author of Digital Citizenship: Teaching Strategies and Practice from the Field, and the recently released Becoming a Digital Parent: A Practical Guide to Help Families Navigate Technology.

 

Karen AllenKaren Allen has been an educator for over 20 years in the San Francisco Bay Area. After over 10 years in the classroom, Karen shifted her focus to supporting teachers as a curriculum specialist, and then later as a school principal in alternative ed programs in Marin County, CA. Karen served as the coordinator for the Marin County Office of Education’s Foster and Homeless Youth Education programs. Karen continues to be a lifelong education leader in Marin County and beyond, supporting teaching and learning communities through trauma-informed practices and social-emotional learning.

 

Joyce WhitbyAbout the Host

Joyce Whitby is the president of Innovations4Education. She is a lifelong educator who spent over ten years teaching graduate-level courses in educational technology at Long Island University, where, in 1984, she developed the T.E.A.M. program (Telecommunications, Education, and Multimedia). Since then, Joyce has been in the business of educational technology with key roles in professional development, marketing, and sales leadership. Most notably she has developed strategic sales initiatives targeting complex and urban environments for several organizations including WICAT Systems, Jostens Learning, Scientific Learning, Apple Computer, Monarch Teaching Technologies (makers of VizZle, an app for students with autism), and the education group of West Corporation (SchoolMessenger solutions). She has been an active member of SIIA for over 15 years.
