Children love a good story. They often applaud and giggle at happy stories, sniffle at sad ones, and shout, “Read it, again!” whenever they have been delighted, intrigued or charmed by a story. Knowing young children’s love of good stories, it’s important to extend that enthusiasm and to better connect children’s books and teaching ideas with other areas of the curriculum. Story S-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-r-s is a literature-based approach to planning circle time, center, and activities, organized around themes often found in the early childhood curriculum. In this webinar, teachers learned how to plan the curriculum using children’s literature as an organizer.

Dr. Shirley Raines, celebrated author, keynote and leadership trainer, started her career as a teacher of young children and as a Head Start and Child Care Center Director. Later, while acting as a university teacher educator and professor, she wrote 14 books for early childhood educators, parents and librarians. She has served as a department chair, dean and university president and may be the only kindergarten teacher in America who became a university president. Dr. Raines is co-author of the wildly popular Story S-t-r-e-c-h-e-r-s book series.
