Classrooms thrive when students engage firsthand with the documents, images, and stories of the past. America’s 250th anniversary offers an opportunity to connect students with sources from this milestone and develop essential skills. Yet not all sources—or teaching approaches—are equally effective at building critical thinking and historical understanding.
Join TCI for this “Teach the 250” edition edWebinar to explore practical ways to teach primary sources at every grade level. Discover how maps, photos, and documents from 250 years ago can make history vivid and accessible to all learners. Learn how to use spiral questions and collaborative routines that help students analyze and understand historical material.
Attendees will:
- Identify and distinguish between primary and secondary sources for elementary, middle, and high school
- Explore underutilized types of sources and effective ways to integrate them
- Apply routines and strategies that encourage analysis, discussion, and engagement
- Connect primary source activities to America’s 250th and deepen historical understanding
This session will provide actionable ideas and routines to make primary sources meaningful for every learner. The edWebinar is ideal for K–12 teachers, instructional coaches, and curriculum leaders.
