About the Presenters
Sharon Vaughn, Ph.D., is the Manuel J. Justiz Endowed Chair in Education and Executive Director of the Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk at The University of Texas at Austin. With more than 30 years of experience in teacher education, Dr. Vaughn is a prolific author and researcher who has conducted more than 60 experimental studies in school settings, written over 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and published more than 50 intervention studies. Her work has shaped educational policy and practice, and she serves as a Senior Adviser to the National Center on Intensive Interventions. The University of Texas at Austin recently awarded Dr. Vaughn the President’s Research Impact Award.

Pamela A. Mason, Ed.D., is a Senior Lecturer on Education, a Co-chair of the Literacy and Languages Concentration, and Director of the Jeanne Chall Reading Lab at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. With extensive experience as both a curriculum coordinator and an elementary school principal, she collaborates with colleagues nationally and globally on preparing reading specialist teachers and literacy coaches, developing the capacity of school leaders as literacy advocates, and evaluating schoolwide literacy programs. Dr. Mason is active in the International Literacy Association, serving on the Assessment Task Force, and in the National Council of Teachers of English, serving on the Standing Committee Against Censorship.

Dr. Young-Suk Kim is a Professor at the School of Education, University of California, Irvine. A former classroom teacher, she focuses on language and literacy development and effective instruction for diverse students. Her extensive research encompasses various aspects of literacy, including written composition, reading comprehension, reading fluency, oral language, listening comprehension, higher-order cognitive skills, and reading-writing relations. Dr. Kim’s research has received over $60 million in grants from the Institute of Education Sciences, the U.S. Department of Education, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and the National Science Foundation. Currently, Dr. Kim serves as the Editor-In-Chief for Scientific Studies of Reading.
