About the Presenters
Karen Sommerhauser is an Account Executive at JoVE with over 25 years of experience in K–12 science education. Karen holds a master’s in science education (M.Ed.) from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Environmental Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She also possesses extensive training in STEM and project-based learning (PBL). She started her career in California, teaching AP Biology at the high school level. After relocating to Texas, Karen continued her dedication to science education. She served as a middle school science teacher, science team lead, and instructional coach. In these roles, she provided crucial support to both students and fellow educators by assisting with curriculum implementation and instructional planning. Her deep understanding of aligning state science standards continues to inform her work at JoVE, where she collaborates with educators and district leaders to enhance science instruction with video-based and supplemental tools. Karen remains passionate about supporting teachers in creating engaging, rigorous science experiences for all learners.

Jeff Rothberg is an experienced educator and advocate for hands-on learning in STEM. He spent 17 years in the Broward County and Charlotte-Mecklenburg school districts as both an educator and administrator, gaining a deep understanding of the challenges schools face in engaging students and supporting teachers. Now serving as the Associate Director of Sales at JoVE, Jeff leverages his extensive background in education to help schools integrate high-quality STEM video resources that complement and enhance hands-on experiments. He is passionate about bridging the gap between digital tools and active learning to improve student engagement and comprehension.
