Would you like to empower students to become published authors while learning to storyboard, design, write, and publish? We have the perfect session for you. Explore ways for students of all ages and content areas to easily create a story book with text, photos, audio clips, and Doodle drawings with the free Shutterfly Photo Story app for the iPad. In this webinar, learn how Stacie Isenberg, Trisha Kaylor, and Jeff Smathers – all from Blairsville-Saltsburg School District in Pennsylvania – enhanced students’ literacy and technology skills while supporting project-based learning.
Stacie, the technology integration coach for the district, discussed how Photo Story was implemented across the district in a variety of grade levels and subject areas, sharing management tips and suggestions learned through her experience using it with over 200 students and 12 teachers who participated in this project. She discussed the system supports that are needed to ensure the success of students and teachers.
Jeff, a second grade teacher, shared how Photo Story helped him create an active, participatory, authentic, standards-based learning environment addressing multiple learning styles for his second grade students. Examples were shared demonstrating the development of literacy skills and the differentiation incorporated for special needs students.
Trisha, a high school math teacher, showed how algebra students wrote stories with a centralized theme that incorporated a variety of math problems. Students chose topics such as sports, dancing, pets and more. This project not only meets many of the Common Core Standards for english language arts, but it also meets standards for high school algebra. You’ll discover a creative way to improve literacy for all students.
Watch Stacie, Jeff, and Trisha in this interactive session for inspiration and practical tips for using story books with your own students. They also fielded questions after their presentations.
