Unlocking the Mystery of Developmental Spelling
Thursday, October 25, 2018 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm EDT
Presented by Christine Wei, M.Ed., ELA Content Writer, Square Panda
Sponsored by Square Panda
When you look at young children’s first attempts at writing, it often appears they aren’t really writing anything at all. These first attempts, however, provide a window into children’s understanding of the relationship between letters and sounds, and ultimately their greater knowledge of words.
In this edWebinar, Christine Wei, M.Ed., ELA Content Writer at Square Panda, discusses the significant role invented spelling plays in helping children solidify their understanding of the alphabetic principle as they take their first steps as authors. Learn about the stages of spelling development and the factors that may contribute to children’s nonconventional spelling in the early stages. This recorded presentation will help teachers identify their students’ spelling stages and will provide practical tips for planning developmentally appropriate explicit spelling instruction to help students progress towards conventional spelling. Lastly, this edWebinar explores how to enhance students’ spelling instruction through the use of adaptive multisensory learning games.
This recorded event will be of particular benefit to preK through grade three teachers.
