When you look at young children’s first attempts at writing, it often appears they aren’t really writing anything at all. These first attempts, however, provide a window into children’s understanding of the relationship between letters and sounds, and ultimately their greater knowledge of words.

Learn about the stages of spelling development and the factors that may contribute to children’s nonconventional spelling in the early stages. About the Presenter 

Christine Wei, M.Ed. is currently an ELA content writer at Square Panda developing early literacy content for adaptive, multisensory digital games. She has over 10 years of experience helping children successfully develop the confidence and skills to learn how to read and write. In addition to teaching kindergarten and the primary grades in both public and charter Title I schools, Christine has extensive experience working individually with learners to develop their sensory-cognitive processing skills in her role as a credentialed consultant and associate center director for Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes.
