Overall, this series guides participants to effectively implement UPK in ways that best serve the families in their districts.

Dionne ClabaughAbout the Presenters

Dionne Clabaugh, Ed.D. is a human development specialist who designs engaging curricula and professional learning environments for deep learning and far transfer. As an educational consultant she collaboratively authors student and professional learning curricula for STEM, esports, K-12 compliance, and mentoring, and consults on grants and research. Dr. Clabaugh believes that effective learning happens through autonomous, engaged relationships where people are invested in each other’s growth. Dr. Clabaugh facilitates learning via high-impact, autonomy-supportive, engaging strategies.

Dr. Clabaugh has taught across the lifespan—youth music and scouting, parents, board members, and colleges. She developed a college faculty peer-mentoring program, presented at conferences, and has written book chapters. She developed the Resiliency Bridge™ and co-developed the Human Learning System™ instructional framework. Dr. Clabaugh‘s degrees in music therapy, organization development, learning and instruction (University of San Francisco), and social innovation (University for Peace, Costa Rica) yield an interdisciplinary approach to human development through educational resilience.

 

Caren DreznerAs a professional, leader, and advocate for early childhood education, Caren Drezner has over 25 years of experience mentoring, coaching, and supporting diverse communities of teachers, directors, and parents. Innately passionate about children’s learning through play, Caren is dedicated to ensuring children meet developmental learning objectives using thoughtful, intentional, play-based strategies. Through her experience as a director of ECE programs, her studies of Reggio Emilia, and her education and research, Caren has created early childhood programs that build competent and confident teachers, while designing engaging, play-based learning environments for preschoolers. Caren has a master’s degree in education, with an emphasis in ECE, and is a doctoral candidate in early childhood education. Caren teaches early childhood education and child development courses at the University of Arizona Global Campus and Oxnard College.

 

Jamie Valenzuela-MumauAbout the Moderator

Currently, Jamie Valenzuela-Mumau, Ed.D. is the CEO of Coherent Educational Solutions in Long Beach, CA where the focus of his work is ending injustice for underserved, neglected, and marginalized youth through equipping educators with tools and resources to meet all learners’ needs. Dr. Valenzuela-Mumau believes to meet future workforce demands, it is key to have an inquiry-based environment where skills including leading to self-mastery are developed through rigorous learning experiences. Supported by meaningful educator-learner partnerships, all students can access opportunities for their growth in these competencies, equipping them to be competitive in a global economy. We need to stop doing school TO kids and start doing school WITH kids in order to engage underrepresented populations!™

Dr. Valenzuela-Mumau has experience in both charter and traditional schools serving in executive positions such as superintendent, assistant superintendent, and director of assessment, research, and evaluation as well as principal at both the elementary and secondary levels.
