In a study conducted by the Raytheon Company, 56% of students surveyed indicated they would rather eat broccoli than do math homework. To top it off, research from the National Assessment of Education Progress reveals pervasive low performance and proficiency in mathematics in the U.S. Many education leaders are reimagining how to design learning experiences and systems in a way that helps students and teachers develop a deep connection to–and love for–mathematics.
In this edWebinar, David Woods, Director of Curriculum and Reporting, will share strategies for fostering a school-wide culture that provides students with the mathematical freedom to engage in big ideas and develop skillsets that encourage them to persist and grow, and ultimately reach their potential. Topics of discussion include:
- Elements of a math program that empowers the development of a math mindset
- Strategies to celebrate the diversity of each student’s unique mathematical thinking, strengths, and interests
- Ways to structure professional learning to support educators and drive alignment
- Best practices for assessing and improving the effectiveness of your culture
PreK through middle school district and school leaders will benefit from attending this event. There will be time for a Q&A session at the end of David’s presentation.
