About the Presenters

Jon Alfuth is the senior director of state policy at KnowledgeWorks. In this position, Jon leads the Policy and Advocacy Team’s state technical assistance strategy related to policy development and adoption, as well as the team’s state-focused thought-leadership work. Jon previously served in education policy positions at the National Governors Association, on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C., and at the U.S. Department of Education. He began his career as a public-school teacher and administrator in Memphis, Tennessee.

Kipp D. Rogers, Ph.D. is Chief Academic Officer in Virginia Beach City Public Schools. Dr. Rogers’ expertise is in instructional leadership with a focus on utilizing strategies that integrate technology to promote transformational leadership, student achievement, and closing achievement gaps.

Over the course of his 25-year career in education, Dr. Rogers has held classroom teaching and instructional leadership positions at all levels in urban and suburban schools. Under his leadership, staff achieve high levels of professional learning and meaningful collaboration after looking at data, integrating technology, and differentiating instruction. Those efforts have resulted in increased student achievement in reading, writing, and math.

Dr. Rogers received an international Leadership and Vision Award for his work using mobile learning devices as instructional tools and is the author of articles and four books on mobile learning and integrating technology into instruction.

Dr. Doris Zahner is the chief academic officer at CAE where she provides thought leadership and oversees all research and development studies pertaining to CAE’s performance-based assessments. In addition to her responsibilities at CAE, Dr. Zahner is an adjunct associate professor at Barnard College and Teachers College, Columbia University, as well as New York University, where she teaches statistics courses to undergraduate and graduate students in the social sciences and public policy. Dr. Zahner holds a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology and an MS in applied statistics from Teachers College, Columbia University.
