edWeb.net and Learning.com Launch Community to Support Student Success in a Digital World
edWeb.net and Learning.com have started a new, free professional learning community geared toward helping educators prepare students with the skills they need to excel in today’s increasingly digital world. By 2020, it is estimated that nearly 80% of jobs will require some level of technology proficiency. Students must be given the opportunity to learn and develop digital literacy skills, and Learning.com makes it easy for educators to teach students these critical skills with online tools and lessons.
The Success in a Digital World professional learning community will cover a wide range of topics, including digital literacy, preparing students for online assessments, online safety and digital citizenship, keyboarding and word processing, business applications such as presentation software and spreadsheets, computational thinking and coding, and using digital content with students. The new community offers educators a place to post questions, share practical tips, and get feedback from experts and peers on the issues and challenges in working with students in today’s digital world. The community also offers free edWebinars for educators. edWebinar participants receive a CE certificate for attending a live presentation or for viewing a recording.
Learning.com’s first edWebinar in the Success in a Digital World community will take place on Thursday, July 20th at 1pm Eastern Time. In “Keyboarding Skills Are Foundational for Success,” Kelli Erwin, Senior Instructional Design Manager, Learning.com; and Jeff Meyer, Director of Education, Learning.com, will take a fresh look at using digital curriculum to equip students with keyboarding skills. They will discuss the benefits of keyboarding and different methods to engage students, best practices for introducing and maintaining weekly keyboarding practice, and an introduction to adaptive keyboarding instruction.
“As educators, we all want to help ensure students will be competitive in today’s global economy and bridge the digital literacy skills gap,” said Keith Oelrich, CEO of Learning.com. “We are thrilled to partner with edWeb to provide this professional learning community where teachers can connect with each other, exchange ideas and information, and find tools and tips for tackling this issue.”
Lisa Schmucki, founder and CEO of edWeb.net, commented, “We are delighted to launch this new community with Learning.com to help students succeed in a digital world. There are so many areas to cover, and the content areas are ever-expanding and changing. We know educators really appreciate this kind of support and collaboration, so they can better prepare and motivate their students.”
Educators are invited to join the free Success in a Digital World professional learning community on edWeb.net for invitations to upcoming edWebinars, online discussions, and access to resources.
