edWeb.net and 7 Mindsets Host Community and Present edWebinars on Social-Emotional Learning
edWeb.net is delighted to announce that 7 Mindsets, the national leader in mindsets-based social and emotional learning (SEL), will be hosting Mindsets for Social-Emotional Learning, a free professional learning community on edWeb. Through the community and edWebinars, 7 Mindsets will provide educators with an online space to communicate and collaborate on ideas and resources within the critical and growing topic of social-emotional learning.
7 Mindsets’ first presentation will be a two-part edWebinar series that explores SEL from two perspectives: that of the researcher and the practitioner. Mindsets-based SEL leverages the modern understanding of the brain to empower educators to drive higher levels of achievement and happiness for themselves and for their students.
“I’m excited to introduce the 7 Mindsets and discuss their personal and professional application,” said Lupita Knittel, the President of 7 Mindsets and the host of both webinars. “If you join us, you’ll leave inspired, empowered, and with practical strategies to incorporate these 7 Mindsets into your personal life, your school, and your community!”
The first edWebinar, “Mindsets of Social-Emotional Learning: Part 1 – The Research,” will take place on Wednesday, May, 2 from 4–5 p.m. ET. Knittel will be joined by Jeff Waller, the co-creator of the 7 Mindsets, co-author of the book The 7 Mindsets to Live Your Ultimate Life, and Vice President of Educational Services of 7 Mindsets; and Maria Anifowose, a student at the University of North Georgia. Maria is the first person in her family to attend college. As a high school student in Nigeria, she was introduced to mindsets-based SEL, and she will share her thoughts and experiences about how it has impacted her life. The conversation will address:
- The importance of SEL and the research that led to mindsets-based SEL;
- An introduction to the 7 Mindsets and a student’s view of their impact;
- Common “counter-mindsets”; and
- Three proven strategies to improve your personal and professional success.
Interested educators can register for free here.
“Mindsets of Social-Emotional Learning: Part 2 – The Practice” will take place Wednesday, May 16, from 4–5 p.m. ET. For this conversation, Knittel will be joined by Barbara Vella, the principal of Chattahoochee Elementary in Cumming, GA; and Kirk Jones, the assistant principal of Ayersville Middle School in Defiance, OH. This edWebinar will focus on putting the 7 Mindsets into practice and will feature the following discussion topics:
- SEL: Much more than a program and not “one more thing”;
- Creating a sustainable, positive school culture and a common language; and
- Three key elements for a successful implementation of mindsets-based SEL.
Interested educators can register for free here.
Lisa Schmucki, founder and CEO of edWeb.net, commented, “Over the past year we’ve seen social-emotional learning become one of the top topics on edWeb, so we are especially thankful to be able to launch this new program with 7 Mindsets.”
Both of these edWebinars are presented as part of 7 Mindsets’ edWeb.net community, Mindsets for Social-Emotional Learning, where educators are invited to collaborate and share ideas, examples, and resources for igniting positive change through social-emotional learning. Community members receive invitations to free edWebinars with CE certificates, as well as access to a resource library and online discussion forums. Educators are invited to join the community at edWeb.net/SEL.
