Keeping any student engaged in instruction and class activities is challenging, and the last several months have heightened those challenges. For teachers working with students in special education settings, every day brings new needs to develop and deliver support for each student, and every student in special education has different needs and individual requirements for learning.

In this edWebinar, special education teacher Erica Kouzmanoff-Vymyslicky introduces several of her tips and techniques and the technology solutions she’s found to be practical and helpful for her students and for herself as she navigates teaching in the time of the pandemic. Erica teaches second and third grade special education classes at Denver’s Carson Elementary School and also works as an instructional coach. Her insights into teaching in remote, hybrid and traditional educational settings will give elementary teachers several new ideas for helping students with special needs so all elementary learners can thrive now and in the school year ahead.

This recorded edWebinar will be of interest to K-5 teachers, school and district leaders, special education teachers, special education department chairs, district-level special education directors, professional development leaders, curriculum leaders, equity, inclusion, and diversity leaders, school improvement leaders, and Title I/federal funding directors.

Erica Kouzmanoff-VymyslickyAbout the Presenter

Erica Kouzmanoff-Vymyslicky is a teacher of the Deaf and instructional coach in Denver, Colorado. Because she looks so good in hats, she wears a lot of them professionally; through her experiences as a coach, MTSS coordinator, special education generalist, and teacher of the Deaf, she has had the pleasure of supporting students with a diverse range of skills and needs at the K-5 and 6-8 levels, from students receiving consultative services to those in a center-based placement. Erica values creative problem solving and a strengths-based approach to designing engaging and individualized instruction for every student. She applies this thinking to support the general education setting as an inclusive space by default.
