This thought leadership edWebinar is designed for middle and high school STEM teachers and administrators seeking effective strategies to support the three-dimensional learning framework of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
The goal of this edWebinar is to demonstrate how incorporating STEM videos and interactive quizzes into instruction can deepen student understanding of core science concepts while reinforcing the three dimensions of the NGSS: Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCIs), Crosscutting Concepts (CCCs), and Science and Engineering Practices (SEPs). About the Presenters
Jeff Rothberg is an experienced educator and advocate for hands-on learning in STEM. Before transitioning to educational technology, Jeff spent 10 years as a teacher in the Broward County and Charlotte-Mecklenburg school districts, where he developed engaging, lab-based learning experiences to help students grasp complex scientific concepts. His classroom experience gives him a deep understanding of the challenges teachers face in balancing hands-on and digital learning. Now serving as Director of Academic Business Development at JoVE, Jeff leverages his background in education to support schools in integrating high-quality STEM video resources that enhance hands-on experiments. He is passionate about bridging the gap between digital tools and active learning to improve student engagement and comprehension.
Shauna Carlson is a Marketing Director at JoVE focused on supporting K–12 STEM educators and administrators with tools that drive engagement and deeper learning. She leads initiatives that connect schools with high-impact resources aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and the three-dimensional learning framework. With a background in instructional design, education marketing, and edtech, Shauna brings a classroom-centered perspective to her work—helping teachers implement multimedia strategies that make science more accessible, visual, and inquiry driven. She is passionate about empowering educators with practical, standards-aligned tools that can be integrated seamlessly into lesson plans, labs, and assessments. Through her work, Shauna champions innovative approaches that bring science to life in middle and high school classrooms.
