The math journal is a powerful platform and resource for students to share their strategies and learning while giving them a voice in the math classroom. Writing about math can improve student success by allowing them time to think deeply about the content while making real-world connections and documenting their progress. Watch this recorded edWebinar to find out about the different components of a math journal, the purpose for each of the sections, how to organize it to best meet the needs of your learners, and why it is a vital piece in helping students to be active learners in math.

This recorded edWebinar will be of interest to teachers of the kindergarten through middle school levels.

Rose PalmerAbout the Presenter

Rose Palmer is a preK-5 district math coach for the School District of Waukesha in Southeastern Wisconsin. As a math coach, she has had the opportunity to work with hundreds of teachers in providing professional development around the math practice standards, math workshop, AddVantage Math Recovery, numeracy routines, math games, small guided groups, active participation techniques, math discourse, Cognitively Guided Instruction, and many other topics, as well as writing math curricula for the elementary grades K-5. It is her excitement and passion for students’ understanding and loving math that always guides her work. Before becoming a math coach, Rose was a classroom teacher in three different districts in grades one, three, five and six for over 20 years, so she has an appreciation for all of the grade levels and the work that teachers do each and every day.
