Reading is the language of our classrooms and the key to accessing information. Shifting to structured literacy involves knowledge acquisition and commitment, but the shift is essential for raising reading proficiency in our schools, particularly in grades TK-2.

Join this edWebinar with Express Readers CEO and Founder, Elise Lovejoy, to learn about the latest research, the cognitive science of how students learn to read, successful case studies in shifting school culture, and how to revise the structure of reading to provide all students with success.

During this session, you will be given a roadmap for effective ways to:

  • Transition reading methodology
  • Educate and support teachers through the process
  • Evaluate appropriate and comprehensive programs to implement

This edWebinar will be of interest to administrators and school leaders as well as teachers of the TK-2 grades. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation.

Elise LovejoyAbout the Presenter

Elise Lovejoy is the founder and CEO of Express Readers, a TK-2nd grade foundational skills and reading program. Express Readers’ mission is to provide the highest quality of resources and the fullest extent of teacher support, all with the outcome of higher literacy rates and more engaged readers—anchored in the belief that “every child deserves to learn to read.” Elise holds a BA and an MA in elementary education with 15+ years of experience in the classroom, grades K-2nd grade. Frustrated at the lack of phonics books and resources created by educators who understand realistic applications in classrooms, she now works with teachers across the country to create phonics books based on the immense body of research on how students learn to read, with complete stories and a sense of humor.

Kristi HemingwayAbout the Moderator

After serving many years as an elementary and secondary teacher, Kristi Hemingway transitioned to the role of instructional coach and professional developer, working with teachers to improve literacy practices and helping districts across the country implement new curriculum and instructional strategies. She is a journalist whose writing can be found in local and national publications, and has worked internationally to develop and deliver trainings, workshops and instruction for a wide variety of audiences and institutions. Using her communications background, she’s happy to be leading EdCuration’s podcast, Where We Reshape Learning, and spearheading Explorations and #EdTrustees.
