Learn new ways to provide effective writing instruction and practice that will also help students with their social-emotional development. Authors Leah Mermelstein and Patty McGee explain strategies and techniques that will engage K-6 students in improving their written communication skills, building understanding and compassion, and processing the impact of recent events.

This research-based edWebinars enable educators to combine key types of instructional strands, practice sessions, and levels of support so students can improve their writing and social-emotional skills in a positive and meaningful way. Viewers will learn how to:

  • Progress from instruction to shared practice, guided group work, and independent application
  • Provide feedback that helps students clarify their thoughts and feelings while improving their written expression
  • Develop the self-management and social-awareness skills students need in order to communicate and respond to others
  • Integrate interactive writing, write-alouds, and the writing process with social-emotional learning

This recorded edWebinar will share proven techniques and tips that work well with elementary and middle school students, so it will be of interest to literacy, ELA, and SEL directors and specialists, as well as principals, instructional coaches, teachers, and other educators who support students’ literacy and social-emotional development.
