Of the four language skills—reading, writing, listening, and speaking—reading has the greatest impact on academic success. When students struggle to read in early grades, their ability to master content across the curriculum is impacted and their excitement about learning is diminished.

Watch Dr. Joyce King and Dr. Helen Teague, both PBS TeacherLine online course facilitators, as they examine the importance of early literacy in order to support the long-term success of students. In the edWebinar, they share:

  • Research for effective literacy instruction
  • Components of comprehensive early literacy instruction and how they connect to reading to learn
  • Theory to practice: The importance of teacher modeling
  • Strategies to incorporate into the curriculum to help students become passionate and self-motivated readers, including e-books and other digital tools

Don’t miss this opportunity to build your knowledge of the science of teaching reading and to learn practical strategies to ensure all your students become strong readers. This recorded presentation will be of interest to K-12 teachers, librarians, school leaders, guidance counselors, and school psychologists.
