About the Presenters
Dr. Mervin Jenkins, also known as Spectac, is a hip-hop artist who has collaborated with a Grammy-nominated producer and various other artists throughout his music career. Dr. Jenkins’ contributions as an educator have been equally significant. He has held positions as a middle school teacher, high school assistant principal, middle school principal, and central office administrator. As a school administrator, Dr. Jenkins was honored as a Principal of the Year in a North Carolina school district. For a decade, he served as a director in a nationally recognized education nonprofit. In 2014, Dr. Jenkins was invited to the White House to participate in a roundtable discussion for the My Brother’s Keeper initiative. As a speaker, Dr. Jenkins motivates students, their parents, and educators on the importance of student learning and its direct impact on the community. Currently, Dr. Jenkins serves as a National Academic Advisor (NAA) with Nearpod/Renaissance. He resides on Johns Island, in his native state of South Carolina, with his wife, Chiffon.
Ashley Bridges is a dynamic leader and accomplished educator with a passion for creating more equitable learning environments. She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from North Carolina A&T State University and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Grand Canyon University, with a focus on diverse learners and brain-based learning. Ashley is committed to monitoring organizational development and committed to implementing highly successful diversity and continuous improvement strategies. Ashley began her career as a mathematics teacher at the middle and elementary school levels, where her commitment to student success, diverse development, and educator support led her to transition into the EdTech field. As a Professional Development Specialist and District Strategy Consultant for Nearpod, she refined her expertise in facilitating adult learning principles that lead to growth and enhanced practices. Ashley’s career is distinguished by her unwavering dedication to educational excellence and inclusion in all spaces.
