Discover innovative ways to help students develop foundational skills and vocabulary in the language they know, and then apply their knowledge to the new language they are learning. Cross-linguistic transfer expert Silvia Dorta-Duque de Reyes, working with literacy consultant Shauna Williams, demonstrate in English and Spanish how you can combine explicit instruction with engaging activities that build biliteracy and proficiency.

This research-based edWebinar will help you teach literacy and language skills efficiently, work effectively with diverse students, and provide meaningful practice, either online or in the classroom. You’ll learn how to:

  • Integrate instructional routines and strategies with dual language and bilingual models
  • Systematically teach each sound and its printed symbols in Spanish and English
  • Include metacognitive strategies that increase understanding of both languages
  • Lead enjoyable activities that support application and transfer of knowledge and skills

Practical techniques and tools for remote learning are featured in this recorded edWebinar, which will be of interest to dual language, bilingual, ESL/ELD, and literacy directors, specialists, and teachers, as well as preK-6 principals, instructional coaches, and other educators who work with Spanish-speaking students.
