In this edWebinar, viewers are introduced to strategies, tech tools, and resources that offer learners, especially English learners (ELs), optimal opportunities for language development and academic achievement. Viewers also learn how to effectively scaffold instruction for ELs and struggling learners in content-area classes while building on students’ strengths to maximize engagement.

About the Presenters

Rachel Langenhorst is a long-time district technology integrationist and instructional coach and teaches graduate-level courses in education technology and leadership. A 25+ year veteran in education, Rachel prides herself on being a change agent and lifelong learner. Her biggest fulfillment comes in educating and empowering others through collaboration, creation, and connection. She speaks and instructs throughout the country, focusing her efforts on meeting the needs of all learners, technology integration strategies, individualized professional learning, and effective teaching practices.

Irina McGrath, Ph.D. is an assistant principal at Newcomer Academy in Kentucky and an adjunct professor at the University of Louisville, Indiana University Southeast, and Bellarmine University. She is teaching graduate courses for the ESL/ENL and Literacy Endorsement programs as well as Master of Education in teacher leadership. She was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Russia and has an M.A. in English as a second language (ESL), M.A. in literacy education, Ed.S. in educational administration, and Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction. Dr. McGrath is the first vice president of KYTESOL and a co-director of the Louisville Writing Project (LWP). She is a co-founder of the ELL2.0 site (#ELL2point0 on Twitter).
